Eugesippo de Terra S. apud Allatium, Symmict. l. 1. aliisque, etiam Desertum sic dicitur, in quo CHRISTUS 40. dies totidemque noctes ieiunando transegit, Matth. c. 4. v. 1. et 2. Cuius Deserti quoque meminêre Adrichomius in Beniamin, num. 9. et Quaresimus, Elucidat. Terrae Sanctae, l. 6. Porro, poenae ac multae Monachicae species sic vocatur, atque ita describitur in Statutis Ordinis Hospitalariorum Hierosolym. tit. 18. §. 57. Si vero positus fuerit in quarentena, quadraginta diebus continuis ieiunabit et quartâ ac sextâ feriis dictorum 40. dierum pane et aquâ tantum vescetur, comedens in terra.
